From Telegraph.co.uk:
Los Angeles officials are being urged to adopt a cyclists’ ‘bill of rights’ in the wake of an alleged road rage attack that hospitalised two cyclists.
In a motion presented to the city council, councillor Bill Rosendahl described cyclists as “sensitive and aware citizens of the world” who faced “a challenge, and often a hazard” surviving in “a car-obsessed culture” like Los Angeles.
The move follows an incident in which two experienced cyclists taking part in a July 4 ride suffered serious injuries after an altercation with a motorist, who allegedly slammed on his brakes in front of them, causing them to crash into his vehicle. One of the men’s face went through the car’s back window while the other suffered a serious shoulder injury.
Mr Rosendahl said the incident was indicative of an increasing problem as “a growing population of cyclists” took to the streets. He hopes discussion of the bill of rights will trigger a city-wide education campaign about cyclist rights and road sharing.
