From the Star-Tribune:
ST. PAUL, Minn. - A program aimed at boosting bicycle use in the Twin Cities during the Republican National Convention will now also serve as a fundraiser for Hurricane Gustav relief.
The Louisville, Kentucky-based Humana Foundation is bringing its Freewheelin program to Minneapolis and St. Paul this week. The program gives anyone who registers free use of a bicycle for the day to promote environmental, personal health and community stewardship.
Now Humana says it will donate $10 for every mile ridden on one of the bicycles during this week’s convention to the American Red Cross hurricane-relief efforts.
The program was also in use last week at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. Organizers say more than 5,500 rides logged more than 26,000 miles in Denver.
